LNU launches SCUAA 2013

          Tacloban City- Leyte Normal University launched the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) Regional Meet on September 27, 2013 at its quadrangle with the theme, “Passion Fast Forward”.
         The said activity were participated by the presidents and the sports directors of  11 delegations from different colleges and universities around Region 8.
        Among the guests present were City Councilor Cristina Romualdez and Leyte Governor Carlo Loreto.
        Loreto revealed in his speech that he is proud to be an Alumnus of LNU who is now hosting SCUAA Meet. On the other hand, Councilor Romualdez expressed the same feeling with the governor and she said that she is happy to be a part  of this launching ceremony as well as the thought that LNU hosting the SCUAA.
         “I want to congratulate LNU because they are hosting the SCUAA this year. The mayor and I, as well as the whole city government of Tacloban are happy kasi napakalaking bagay nito para sa turismo ng Tacloban,” Romualdez said.
         However, President Duarte thanked all the people who were there which made the SCUAA launch successful. He then emphasized the full support of the city government of Tacloban and provincial government of Leyte. He also said that there is no reason to fail because everyone is behind them.
         The games for   this year’s SCUAA are to begin on October 21 and to end Nov.15. This will be participated by more than 3,000 student-players to contest 18 sports disciplines.

LNU aims high for Mr. and Miss SCUAA 2013

               Tacloban City- In line with this year’s SCUAA Meet, two Normalistas namely Johannes Paulus Casis and Cyril Valera will represent Leyte Normal University for this upcoming Mr. and Miss SCUAA 2013.
                The said event is going to be held on October 21 at the Leyte Convention Center and this will be participated by different candidates from each State Colleges and Universities(SUCs) around region 8.
                Since it’s the first time for the LNU to host the SCUAA, extended efforts are given by the administration to make the pageant a success. Beginning this week which is only a week before the pageant, rehearsals will be undertaken by Johannes and Cyril to be ready for the pre- pageant on October 20 at Robinson’s Annex Building.
                “I’m hoping that everything will be successful and that there will be no problems at all. The schedules are very hectic but we are trying our best to plot the time. I’m hoping that there will be no complaints from other SUCs,” said Ms. Candice Aguilos, the coach for LNU candidates.
                “Ms. Cyril and even Johannes are busy with their academic requirements. Especially that the final examination is ongoing. But despite their hectic schedule, I always remind them to always keep in mind to prepare physically and mentally,” Ms. Aguilos added.
                In an interview with Johannes, he said that he prepared himself as early as the month of August. As a student, time management is a problem for him so he must always consider his priorities. He cannot say that he can win the pageant but he is looking forward for the result.
                “Being a candidate of Mr. SCUAA, it is a great help for me in boosting my confidence I must be a model in the eyes of the Normalistas so I am always conscious with my moves. Whatever achievements I may get from this pageant, it would always bear the name of our school. So, I will do my best for our school,”  said Johannes.
                Candidates from different SUCs will arrive on October 19 and will be accommodated in the LNU campus. Overall rehearsal will follow on the night.

LNU SCUAA 2013: Run for a Purpose

                Tacloban City- In line with the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA), Leyte Normal University as the host had conducted a fun run activity on October 13, 2013 at 4 AM.
                According to the organizers of this event, there were 371 registered runners. For the 5 kilometers (5k) run: 165 runners, 3k: 80, 10k: 82, and 21k: 44.  21k was divided into two categories: 21kA for age 30 below and 21kB for age 31 above.
                Medals were given to the best runners. Sajed Salameda(5k), Melvin Sermonit(10k),  Hubert Tolibas(21kA), and Alvin Plimaco(21kB) were considered the best runners for their respective category.
                An intriguing Grade 2 pupil of STEFTI named Renzo Cahincoy had finished his 5k run successfully.  When he was asked why he joined the fun run, he replied that it was his parents who encouraged him. He added that he is happy that he joined this activity.
                Meanwhile, Angel Nebrija, a 5k runner was awarded considering the first girl to finish the race.
                In an interview with the LNU sports director Mr. Jed Lerios, he emphasized that aside from promoting physical fitness, the said event has a purpose of addressing the public that LNU is hosting this year’s SCUAA Meet. He added that their preparation had started 6 months ago.
                The race route started from Paterno St. and ended still in the said street and different destinations were given to the runner depending on the no. of kilometers they have to run. For the 3k: LNU Paterno, Avenida Veteranos, Real, Justice Romualdez, Rizal, Avenida Veteranos, and lastly back to LNU Paterno; for the 5k: LNU Paterno, Sta. Cruz, Independencia, Real, Magsaysay Blvd, Senator Enaje, Justice Romualdez, Rizal, Avenida, and back to LNU Paterno; for the 10k: LNU Paterno, Sta. Cruz, Juan Luna, Independencia, Real, Robinsons, Real, J. Romualdez, and LNU Paterno; and for the 21k: from LNU Paterno, Sta. Cruz, Juan Luna, Independencia, Real, Marasbaras, Government Center, Mac Arthur Landing, Manlurip, San Jose, Coca- Cola, Real, J. Romualdez, Rizal, Avenida, Paterno, Sta. Cruz, Salazar, Aquino Avenue, LNU Paterno.
                Before the Fun Run activity started, the participants conducted a warm up exercise led by the MAPEH majors.
                The activity was sponsored by the province of Leyte, City of Tacloban, Rotary Club of Tacloban, DBP, Land Bank, Philippine Red Cross, Pepsi, Smart, Kawasaki, Nestle, PCSO, LMWD, CNE Construction, canto fresco, Bukid Outdoor Shop, and Paru Parong Bukid Nature Conservation Center.

Vice President Binay delivers speech to the Normalistas

         
      Vice- President  Jejomar  Binay visited Leyte Normal University on Wednesday,  September 17, 2013 and had given speech to all normalistas  at the LNU gymnasium.
                As Binay started on his speech, he apologized because Leyte Normal University is not included in the list of schools that he provides scholarship every year. He has an impression that all the colleges and state universities are all beneficiaries of his scholarship program.
                In educational concerns-  Binay shared the statement of the former South African president Nelson Mandela , “ Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” . He added that the statement of Mandela  is very simple but very true. He related it to himself on how education has given him a big change and he added that his mother had influenced him a lot.
                The progress in public education in Makati is what Binay is proud of. “Libre ang kagamitan sa pag-aaral simula sa lapis, notebook, libro , bag at uniporme,” he said. He added,  “I always believe that every Filipino, rich or poor, young or old, city resident or rural citizen, has a God given right to obtain quality education.”
                In political concerns- About the experience of Binay as he seated for the first time as Mayor of Makati, he said, “People were not so sure for what I could do for Makati but in my mind I did not do what I could not do. I was not burdened by pre-conceived traditions and limitations and so I had no self-imposed obstacles to overcome”.
                 Binay also explained  about what they had done when the time that Makati had experienced bankrupt, “Nagpatupad kami ng malawakang reporma at sa loob po ng isang taon, napalago namin ang kaban ng bayan. Naging tapat ang pagdala ng pagbayad ng mga mamamayan sa negosyante at negosyante at nabigyan ng bagong lakas at mga kritikal na serbisyong publiko, “He also added that their slogan became ARISE from RISE which means Action for Revenue, Infrastructure, Social Services and Education.
                Binay had also tackled on how computerization is vital in expanding their revenue during his mayoralty in Makati. He noted that when he took off his seat as a Mayor, the revenue reached 11 billion pesos compared to 200,000 peso in 1986.

                Before Binay had ended his speech, he  left a statement, “Pag-alis po ninyo sa pagtitipong ito, maging bahagi sana kayo ng mas malawak na lipunan, maging bahagi sana kayo sa poagbuo ng isang bagong pilipinas, isang pilipinas na ang lahat ay may pagkakataong umangat sa buhay na ang lahat ng bata ay may pagkakataong makapag-aral, na ang maysakit ay mabibgyan ng wastong lunas, na ang mga nakatatanda ay nabibigyan ng pagkalinga at pagmamahal,”.
